Stoicism reveals 4 rituals that will make you confident
Emotionlessness uncovers 4 customs that will make you sure Aloofness uncovers 4 customs that will make you certain Ever feel like you're sufficiently bad? Something awful occurs and your cerebrum plays a YouTube feature reel of each error you've at any point made. Your certainty crashes and your confidence flatlines. You're not the only one. Individuals have been feeling like this as long as there have been individuals. It's an old issue and there are old arrangements - old arrangements that work lovely darn well, as an issue of fact.I've discussed how therapists steam-cleaned and science-tized old Buddhism into modern care. All things considered, some extremely brilliant individuals have additionally tidied off Stoicism and weaponized it into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) - which is the most experimentally upheld treatment for most of mental conditions.Mindfulness is the delicate cousin that means back, inspects considerations, and lets the dangerous ones buoy away. Yet, it's not for everyone⦠CBT, then again, is the forceful cousin that inquires as to whether they'd prefer to step outside and settle this in the back street behind the bar. Having sharpened Stoic standards into a military workmanship called sanity, CBT uprightly challenges some tuchus on the thoughts that bring you down.So when you're feeling not really on top of the world and need a lift, how would you utilize the advanced adaptation of antiquated Stoicism to fabricate more mojo?Let's get to it⦠CBT = logical StoicismThere's a ton to Stoicism (in the event that you need the full whack, go here) yet for our motivations we're going to Zeno in - challenges, I signify zero in - on one key concept:Your sentiments originate from your thoughts. The rock falling on your Honda didn't make you miserable. Also, the dolt who considered you a blockhead didn't drive you mad. Your musings, decisions and convictions about what happened are what makes your passionate reactions. From The Daily Stoic:It isn't occasions themselves that upset individuals, however just their decisions about them. â" EpictetusAnd it's th at thought that frames the center of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. From The CBT Toolbox: A Workbook for Clients and Clinicians:CBT (Beck, 2011) depends on the rule that considerations impact emotions, sentiments impact activities, and activities impact our outcomes, or life conditions. At the end of the day, circumstances don't cause us to feel certain ways. Individuals don't cause us to feel certain ways. It's how we decipher (or consider) circumstances or things individuals state or do that impacts how we feel. Some individuals are presumably dismissing this thought out of hand: Thoughts are mindful? No way. I didn't have the opportunity to think. He considered me a simpleton and that's what caused me to feel angry.Sorry, no. On the off chance that I threaten to use a firearm like item out of my coat and you trust it's a water gun, you don't get scared. If I threaten to use a firearm like article out of my coat and you trust it's actually a weapon, you're frozen. Totally different p assionate response. Be that as it may, what changed? Only your beliefs.Maybe you despised that Honda and would want to have the protection cash. Possibly you realize that nitwit is a numbskull and his supposition makes no difference to you. Convictions decide how you feel and react. The Stoics understood that we have to address silly or unhelpful convictions so we can see the world and ourselves all the more unmistakably and live a superior life. From The Daily Stoic:Today I got away from the pound of conditions, or better put, I tossed them out, for the squash wasn't from outside me however in my own suppositions. â" Marcus AureliusBut disposing of the silly, negative musings doesn't mean you should just attempt to fill your head with positive insistences. That is supplanting one off base idea with another in light of the fact that being excessively positive can be preposterous. We want rational thoughts.(To get familiar with the study of an effective life, look at my new book here .)Okay, out with the unhelpful, nonsensical contemplations and in with the valuable, reasonable musings⦠however how would we do that?1) Identify and challenge contorted thoughtsWhen you're feeling unconfident or your confidence plunges, that voice in your mind, what is it saying? Since we need to get under the inclination to the conviction that is causing it. So answer this question:I felt unconfident in light of the fact that I thought⦠You most likely have a couple go to contemplations like, I'm a simpleton or I'm a finished failure. Once you've recognized them we go to section 2: testing the thoughts. Stoics realized this subsequent part was critical. From The Daily Stoic:First off, don't let the power of the impression divert you. State to it, 'Hold up a piece and let me see what your identity is and where you are from â" let me scrutinized you⦠' â" EpictetusSo what does CBT suggest you do? For each mutilated idea, give a discerning reaction: Twisted: On the grounds that I botched this venture, I will never add up to anything and I am a finished disappointment. Discerning: I've done incredible on different undertakings before, so it's not reasonable for state that I am a finished disappointment. Furthermore, it's presumable I will have achievements later on. Try not to let those nonsensical, exceeding negative contemplations slide by unchallenged. Right them and, with time, you'll be thinking the more sound reactions instinctively.(To take in the six ceremonies from antiquated shrewdness that will satisfy you, click here.)That's fine for the incidental negative idea however imagine a scenario in which you're somebody who is always feeling low confidence and always lacking certainty. We gotta burrow further⦠2) Test your center beliefsIf you constantly feel down about yourself it may not be an issue of a negative idea anywhere; it might be that your center convictions about yourself are negative.Ideas like I'm unlovable or I'm a failure may be at the base of the majority of the choices you make. With the goal that's the place you have to start.Challenging such a principal thought can appear to be overwhelming. That idea has a great legal advisor in your mind who is continually introducing huge amounts of proof to demonstrate his case th at you're a loser. So it's most likely not hard at all for you to make a rundown of all that confirmation. Okay, do it. No doubt. Record that stuff. Truly. No, it's not fun. But it's significant. I'll pause⦠Done? Ouch. Not feeling so hot at this point. In any case, here's the manner by which we fix things. The arraignment introduced it's case. In any case, what you've been missing is a guard legal counselor on the other side. From The Daily Stoic:This is the genuine competitor â" the individual in thorough preparing against bogus impressions. Stay firm, you who endure, don't be seized by your impressions! The battle is incredible, the errand divine â" to pick up authority, opportunity, satisfaction, and quietness. â" EpictetusWith just the I'm a washout side having somebody forcefully introducing proof, you have an awful instance of cynicism affirmation predisposition - you're just observing the stuff that concurs with the possibility that you're awful. So plunk down and make a subsequent rundown. A rundown of reasons you are not a washout - why the main legal counselor is wrong. From The CBT Toolbox: A Workbook for Clients and Clinicians:Because of how our channels (convictions) are set up, we frequently notice occasions that help the undesirable convictions more than we notice those that may bolster our inverse, sound convictions; notwithstanding, that proof quite often exists too. One significant apparatus includes constraining ourselves to think back over those exact same times of life intentionally hoping to see the proof that bolsters our solid beliefs. Is the no-confidence legal counselor despite everything winning? Most likely. You're not used to testing that thought and you presumably markdown all the amazing things you do, in the event that you notice them by any stretch of the imagination. So what's the enchantment mystery here? You need co-counsel.CBT says that having a companion help you to remember all the incredible stuff you do that makes you significant and important can assist you with recollecting and prevent you from excusing strong evidence. From The CBT Toolbox: A Workbook for Clients and Clinicians:You might need to depend on relatives or companions who were around during every time of life to enable you to see such proof. Regardless of whether they share things they see as tallying that you don't think should tally record them at any rate⦠Having that rundown of reasons you are pretty darn amazing will assist you with excusing that negative center conviction and supplant it with something increasingly legit, exact and rational.(To figure out how to utilize CBT to never be baffled again, click here.)Okay, you burrowed profound and tended to those center convictions. In any case, everything won't change for the time being. (Sorry.) How would you keep reinventing the PC and ensure those old bugs in the code don't spring up again?3) Have an evening certainty ritualThe Stoics realized you expected to set aside some effort to mirror every day so as to keep improving. From The Daily Stoic:I will oversee myself and â" most conveniently â" will put every day up for audit⦠Let us balance life's books every day⦠â" SenecaSo you returned and countered the I'm a failure case with proof from an earlier time that you are not a washout. Indeed, this is a legal dispute that never closes. Consistently, take some time around evening time to consider what you progressed admirably. Continue aggregating evidence. From The CBT Toolbox: A Workbook for Clients and Clinicians:Another significant device for growing progressively solid convictions and subsequently getting less responsive, is a continuous proof log. Though past instruments expected you to survey your life and search for proof from the past, progressing proof logs solicit you to be careful from proof in your ordinary life. With time, you'll notice the positive all the more regularly. Also, you'll partner it with what your identity is. Furthermor e, your self-idea will turn out to be more positive. From The Daily Stoic:Your psyche will take the state of what you regularly hold in thought, for the hu

Everything about the title and cover design screams that itâs going to have something marvelous inside. (And that itâs HOT.) Note the retro color scheme and bold lines representing books on a shelf. I talked to the author of this mug, and she said she wanted to create it so avid readers could profess their love of books. And, oh yeah, to also bring in a few bucks for Reading is Fundamental (RIF), the national non-profit organization that puts books in the hands of underprivileged kids who otherwise wouldnât have any books of their own. Well, how did the author pull this off? Thatâs right, she bugged her friend Carter Higgins, the writer and designer behind the popular blog Design of the Picture Book. Yes, the same person who designed the Picture Book Writing Pie. And Carter delivered. Big time. So head on over to the CafePress PiBoIdMo shop to grab your cuppa. (And thereâs a shirta, too.) Job Search Scam Tip Free Doesnt Mean Its Not a Scam
Quest for new employment Scam Tip Free Doesn't Mean It's Not a Scam Quest for new employment Scam Tip Free Doesn't Mean It's Not a Scam Gain $5,000 a month telecommuting! Get paid to telecommute! No experience fundamental! Employment tricks are something that pretty much every activity searcher needs to battle with sooner or later during their profession. What's more, in case you're searching for a work-from-home occupation, it can appear that the Internet is immersed with work postings that are professing to be real postings, yet are extremely simply false posts from would-be con artists. Generally, individuals perceive these excessively eager, shout pointed posts as a potential quest for new employment trick. They additionally know probably the greatest indication of a vocation trick is being approached to surrender your hard-won cash so as to get recruited. In any case, that is the place it can get dubious. In an article on The Balance, How to Tell If a Job Is a Scam, it expresses the accompanying: Don't pay cash for anything. ⦠Don't send cash for work at home indexes, guidance on getting employed, organization data or for whatever else identified with an occupation. This is consistent with a degree. You shouldn't need to pay forthright with expectations of getting recruited, nor should you need to pass out your Social Security number, financial balance data, or some other private data to a possible manager, particularly when you haven't experienced the employing procedure (i.e., rounds of prospective employee meetings, submitting suggestions, etc). Those who require this data will in general be work tricks, however that stated, there are additionally many genuine occupation related destinations and administrations out there that are not tricks. These three focuses ought to be mulled over when evaluating any potential job search trick: You may need to burn through cash on your pursuit of employment. Dishing out cash, particularly when you're not working, can be especially difficult. In any case, there are times when you may need to make a money related interest in your pursuit of employment, for example, continue instructing or headhunting. You may even search out the administrations of a lifelong instructor, put resources into quest for new employment books, or pay for specialty work showcase locales (like ). These, and others, are outfitted towards helping individuals improve their odds of discovering, landing, and appreciating work⦠and a large number of these assets cost cash. From a vocation searcher point of view, it's cash very much spent in the event that it improves your pursuit of employment experience and encourages you find work. Don't excuse it just in light of the fact that there is an expense, and rather assess every circumstance on its own legitimacy. Because it's free does NOT mean it's sheltered. The sad truth is that on most free places of work, there are work tricks, unrealistic business openings, and garbage advertisements blended in with the activity postings or in the paid promotions in the sidebar. A large number of the tricks act like free chances, with the goal of getting your own data for character misrepresentation or Mastercard burglary. You may never pay a penny, yet you could in any case lose a great deal. Do some examination. Before you even contact the individual recorded hands on posting, you ought to do your exploration. Look at the association on the Better Business Bureau's site to check whether it is a) genuine and b) has any grievances recorded against it. On the off chance that it's an organization that you're not so much acquainted with, you ought to do your due persistence on the web and see what data is out there as the organization's site and online life nearness. (On the off chance that the organization has neither one of the its, could be an indication that the organization isn't genuine.) You can even Google the organization's name and trick to check whether anything comes up. While The Balance article represents some valid statements, it may have been exceptional to state, Don't pay to get recruited, in light of the fact that that is in every case valid. Genuine managers will never ask candidates to pay so as to land recruited for the position. So also, any individual who vows to get you recruited ought to be seen pretty warily, and you ought to consistently do your exploration on the organization. In spite of the fact that you may choose to make a budgetary interest in your pursuit of employment and vocation, it ought to basically never be to pay a business to enlist you. How Much Money Do Real Estate Agents Make
How Much Money Do Real Estate Agents Make How Much Money Do Real Estate Agents Make? If youâre thinking about jumping into a new career as a real estate agent, you want to make sure you understand all aspects of the real estate businessâ"including pay. Unlike other career choices, there is usually no guarantee of pay in real estate, rather itâs determined by the number of homes you list for sale (and sell) and how successful you are at helping interested buyers find and purchase homes. Not all real estate agents make the same amount of money; rather, their income is influenced by many different factors. Below we will take a look at how much money a real estate agent makes, and ways that real estate agents can influence that amount, so you can decide if being a real estate agent is a good career. Do Real Estate Agents Make a Lot of Money? A real estate agentâs income is dependent on many different things, including how long theyâve been in business, the market theyâre in, the brokerage theyâre partnered with, and the types of properties theyâre selling. Experience Level The first factor that determines how much money a real estate agent makes is their experience level. Most first-year agents barely squeak by because theyâre working to build up a client base. While they can implement marketing techniques to advertise their services, the best way a real estate agent can build up their clientele is through referrals from other satisfied clients. Obviously, when an agent is starting out, they donât have these referrals, so building their business is a bit more challenging. Real estate agents only get paid on the houses they sell or help their clientâs purchase, so if they donât have clients, they wonât be making a lot of money. Success Rate The second factor that impacts how much money an agent will make is their success rate. While real estate agents that sell hundreds of high-value properties a year will make well over the median income, those agents who only sell one house every couple of months will definitely be on the lower end of the pay range. Itâs important to note that most real estate agents only sell between four to six homes a year, so selling hundreds of high-value properties is not as easy as it sounds, and people looking to start in real estate should not expect to sell more than 10 homes their first year. Sponsoring Brokerage The third factor that contributes to a real estate agentâs income depends on the brokerage theyâve partnered with. Of course, real estate agents make the majority of their money on commissions from the buying and selling of homes, but they donât get to keep the entire amount. If youâre asking yourself, âWhat percentage do real estate agents make?â, the answer is that it depends on the situation. Real estate agents need to split their commissions with their sponsoring broker, and the commission split is usually determined by the real estate agentâs experience level. For example, a first-year agent might receive only 50% of their commission, while the brokerage gets 50%. However, as a realtor gets more experience (and is likely bringing in more sales) the commission split starts to favor the agent more than the broker. Location The fourth factor that determines an agentâs income is their location. Different markets have different average property sale prices, so a real estateâs pay is largely based on their location. An agent thatâs selling million-dollar homes in Los Angeles will obviously make more money than an agent selling $200,000 homes in Ohio. In fact, an agentâs income is so largely determined by their market, that mean incomes drastically vary from state to state. 10 States Where Real Estate Agents Earn the Most Money If you live in one of these ten states, youâre in luck! You will be making more money than those in the other 40 states. Here are the top ten states where real estate agents earn the most money, and their 2017 mean annual wages. New York $102,310 Texas $72,480 Hawaii $72,470 Alaska $71,030 Rhode Island $70,450 California $68,850 Pennsylvania $66,550 Wyoming $64,500 Virginia $64,290 Colorado $63,320 10 States Where Real Estate Agents Earn the Least Money Unfortunately, not all states have a booming real estate industry. If youâre in one of these ten states, you will be making some of the lowest incomes compared to agents across the country. Ohio $41,650 Arkansas $41,600 Montana $42,010 Indiana $43,230 West Virginia $45,220 Connecticut $45,230 Tennessee $45,960 Georgia $46,220 Nebraska $46,340 Kansas $46,640 How Real Estate Commissions Are Paid Like we mentioned in our âSponsoring Brokerageâ section, real estate agent commissions are based largely on their sponsoring brokerage. When a real estate agent sells a home, theyâre typically paid through a listing agreement that is signed by the seller and the listing agent. The listing agent will sign on behalf of the brokerage. However, not only do the listing agent and brokerage split the commission, but the commission must also be split with the brokerage that represents the buyer. Hereâs an example from The Balance of how much a listing agent would make if the commission was 7%, with a 50% split with the brokerage who produces the buyer. The sales price of the property is $200,000, meaning the total commission at 7% would be $14,000. Because the brokerage takes 50%, the commission left for the real estate agent is $7,000. This $7,000 is then split between the listing agent and the agent representing the buyer (at about a 60% split for first-year agents). This leaves only $4,600 for the listing agent. Of course after that, federal and state taxes will be removed, which can add up to around 30% or more and take out a significant chunk from the $4,600, making the initial $14,000 in commission not quite as accurate anymore. Now that you understand more about the payment structure of real estate agents, are you ready to start your career as one? A recent report found that most social botches during interviews result from neglectfulness or poor relational aptitudes â" and those bungles frequently become major issues. Vocation master Vicky Oliver, a top rated writer of five books, including 301 Smart Answers to Tough Interview Questions, cautions that interviewees who can't make discussion, talk relentlessly, or constantly check their telephones leave an awful impression that not so much as a perfect resume or gleaming reference can counterbalance. From the underlying handshake, they can learn the quality of an occupation applicant's character. In the event that you have a feeble grasp, a moist palm, or won't look, you infer an absence of certainty and meekness that would make a terrible fit in most workplaces. Make a point to begin with a firm grasp. 3. Wearing unfitting clothing Your demonstrable skill runs over quickly through your decision of meeting clothing. On the off chance that you dress too calmly (regardless of whether the association has a casual workplace), it communicates something specific that you have an easygoing methodology toward work. Or on the other hand, if your appearance proposes a night of clubbing, it infers a failure to unravel the proper clothing regulation for proficient settings. 4. Showing up too much effusive Interviewees who beat the questioner with questions, babble on in their answers or feel constrained to fill any quietness with talk will have employing directors pulling back from the up-and-comer's unchecked verbosity. Let this occur during your prospective employee meet-up and you'll before long get a dismissal email. 6. Utilizing inadmissible language Poor language is code for poor interchanges abilities. Applicants who utilize casual expressions or are exceptionally casual with language won't cut it in the expert existence where composed and verbal aptitudes are fundamental. Moreover, improper or slanderous language shows an absence of refinement or self-oversight. On the off chance that you give any indications of lacking relational abilities, anticipate that the meeting should end rapidly. 7. Sharing amateurish correspondence channels In the wake of employing directors separate through their lineup and select a finalist, they prepare to send an email with the bid for employment. In any case, at that point they see hotmama in your handle. Or then again, they call to make you an offer and your voice message shoots them with overwhelming metal music. No inquiry they'll proceed onward to their next in line applicant and you'll have returned to conveying resumes once more. The primary concern in any prospective employee meeting is to be behaving as well as possible. Any slip by in social abilities is a significant measure that businesses will consider when settling on their employing choices. Put forth a valiant effort to pass on a cheery disposition, fitting prudence, and legitimate manners.

Instructions to Promote Your Company Culture to Recruit Top Talent In the tenth scene of The Recruiting Reel, China Gorman gives some superb exhortation on the best way to elevate your organization culture to enroll top ability recall, culture is everything! #TheRecruitingReel Episode 10 is live! Accomplishment. @ChinaGorman and @AllThingsBiz Watch it here: Snap To Tweet Heres the transcript of the scene: Josh Tolan: Hey everyone! My name is Josh Tolan and I'm the CEO of Spark Hire, the main video talking with stage utilized by a huge number of associations around the globe. What's more, this is The Recruiting Reel, a video arrangement wherein we talk about genuine selecting difficulties with unmistakable enlisting specialists so you leave with actionable tips you can apply to your own enrolling. The present scene centers around How to Promote Your Company Culture to Recruit Top Talent and our highlighted master is China Gorman. Presently, in case you're in HR or selecting, the chances are quite high that you've just known about China. She's the previous Chief Operating Officer at SHRM, a stunning keynote speaker, and a prominent worldwide official. We're completely excited to have China on the show today and I'll let her take it from here! China Gorman: Hi! Im China Gorman. Im an advisor and creator of the Data Point Tuesday blog at chinagorman.com. Im additionally Chair of the WorkHuman Advisory Board fueled by Globoforce. Today, were discussing society and enlisting; and what job companies culture play in selecting. All things considered, from multiple points of view, culture is everything in enlisting. Culture is the representative experience brand that you take out to your ability pool. Similarly likewise with different sorts of brands, theres whats dispersed in to the market and afterward theres reality. Enchantment happens when those two are one in the equivalent, yet we as a whole realize that doesnt happen constantly; particularly in the enlisting game. It gets hard when the message and the truth dont coordinate so the most significant thing for enrollment specialists to remember is that present workers talk and they share. They converse with one another, they converse with the market, and they share. Kid, oh joy, do they share. On the off chance that what you depict to competitors about your representative experience is genuine, your up-and-comers will know. In the event that it isnt, theyll realize that as well and not exclusively will you need to overpay advertise rates to settle the negotiation and get the ability you need, however your own and expert notoriety could likewise endure a shot. We as a whole know enormous, well known brands whose societies are horrendous however. They dont show gratefulness, they give their qualities empty talk, and pioneers dont finish typically. They work their representatives into the ground. They arent generally excellent corporate residents. They arent fair with their representatives but then, their brands are brilliant and sparkly in the commercial center. Those associations can and do recruit individuals, however they overpay and they have intense maintenance challenges. Individuals go there to get that brand on their resume as a sort of expert purple heart and following 18 two years, if the organization is fortunate, they are no more. So culture is basic in both drawing in and holding ability just as repulsing ability. By what method can organizations best advance organization culture so as to pull in and employ todays top ability? All things considered, its sort of straightforward and its extremely sort of natural. Make and keep up a human, individuals centered culture that is driven by pioneers who are reliable, who value their partners, who are reasonable, and who are skillful. On the off chance that each pioneer in your association satisfies those standards, enrollment specialists will have no issue pulling in the best ability since workers share. Kid, goody gumdrops, do they share. Josh Tolan: That's a connecting with and very spot on answer from China on the best way to elevate your organization culture to enlist top ability. In a past scene, we talked with Alison Hadden from Glassdoor about structure an effective enrollment brand and she accentuated how associations must begin to grasp straightforwardness. China brings this round trip by calling attention to that your business image will be straightforward; in any case. So your organization culture will be advanced naturally and that will have an extremely positive or truly negative effect on your enrolling. Along these lines, in case you're not as of now, make 2016 the year when your official group develops a brilliant standard culture and sets the model for the guiding principle that are normal in the work environment. This will establish the best possible framework for a solid organization culture that will no ifs, ands or buts, help your selecting group pull in top ability. I truly need to express gratitude toward China Gorman for being the highlighted master on the present show. I urge you folks to look at her site at chinagorman.com to become familiar with her experience and a portion of the stunning work she has done. Why You Shouldnt Be Looking For A Job
Why You Shouldn't Be Looking For A Job 84 Jobs are dead. Long live the contract-driven economy. This is a guest post by Rebecca Rachmany. If youâd also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. Letâs start with why youâre looking for a job in the first place. Thatâs obvious, you say. Itâs because you need to make a living. Iâm with you on that one, but letâs just look a tad deeper. What you really want is financial security. Letâs face it. A job is good today, but you want long-term financial security, not just a job today.eval A job will never give you financial security A few years ago, someone interviewing me for a job asked me why I move companies so often. I said, the average time on a job is a year and a half, so Iâm not far off that average. See, this startup failed, and that one moved the department offshore, and I got a better offer here. Nothing strange. The only strange thing, I realized, was that every time I had a job, I thought I had a job.eval What I actually had was a contract. All youâve got is a contract for the next 30 days, if that Wait, itâs worse than that. Not only do you only have a contract, you only have a contract for as much money as you need this month. You arenât putting anything aside for the next interruption in your job, are you? Remember, the job is going to last an average of 1.5 years, so you better be saving enough for those 3 months between jobs that are coming up in another year or two. Seriously. You should be looking for a contract Should you be a freelancer? Start your own business? I would say yes. Actually, I would say you already are your own business. You are just a contractor. Companies take you on temporarily to fill a particular temporary position. Itâs temporary for a variety of reasons, not least because the company itself is temporary. If you have the skills to do so, start your own business. If you donât, get those skills. Seriously. The higher the salary, the higher the risk I was chatting with a product manager one day, and I commented that he seemed like he should be in a more senior position. He said that he had carefully turned down promotions throughout his career. He chose to stay at a medium-level salary, with no promotions, because he knew there would always be openings for product managers. There arenât as many openings for VP. If you want to be fairly secure in your career, thatâs not a bad way to go. Note, however, that you have not made great progress towards financial security. Especially as you pass age 50. If you lose your job after age 50, no matter what your profession, youâll have difficulty finding a new job. Letâs see. Thatâs 15 years before retirement. What are the chances youâll lose a job in a span of 15 years. Pretty close to 100%. Again, you have moved away from financial security, in particular in the years you are going to most need it â" when youâre getting older. The days of the âjobâ are behind us Do you know why people keep saying that there are no jobs? Itâs because you didnât listen the first time. Of course there are jobs. The main reason there are jobs is because of small companies, not big companies. Small business is responsible for most of the job creation. The statistics speak for themselves. Most new jobs are created by small companies. This article says that these jobs are short-lived, but weâve just established that almost all jobs are short-lived. If you want to succeed in creating financial security for yourself and your family, itâs time to learn business skills. I know you think you arenât the entrepreneurial type. You think that because youâve been educated your whole life to be an employee, not because of your natural tendencies. Our educational system still insists on educating employees rather than entrepreneurs. Fortunately, you can learn the skills to be an entrepreneur at any time. Whether you decide to stay in a regular (temporary) job or not, these skills will serve you for the rest of your life. Unless you are in a high-demand profession If you are a programmer, this article isnât talking to you. You will always be able to find a job if you follow these two rules: Always keep your skills updated. Learn new languages, even if it means using your own time and money. Maintain good relationships with colleagues. If you follow those rules and stay in high-demand positions, youâll always have a job. Note that I didnât say âdo excellent workâ. It goes without saying that you should be at least âgoodâ at your job. Learning entrepreneurial skills wonât hurt you, even in the most stable of jobs. It certainly will benefit the company you are working for if you develop these skills, and at the end of the day, if you benefit your company, youâre making your job more stable. What skills do I need? If you recognize that you may become an entrepreneur or freelancer, either by choice or by force, following are the skills youâll need to learn. Sales. There are many online courses and in-person you can take. Any sales organization or MLM company provides sales training, though I donât recommend MLM. I do recommend the Landmark Introduction Leaders program, though they would never call it sales training, it is very effective. Drive: To run your own business, you need to have drive. I recommend a course in self-empowerment, in particular courses that come from the coaching discipline. The in-person courses are best, but online or DVD-based courses are also effective, if you make sure to repeat the classes until they are internalized. I recommend the Anthony Robbins materials for motivation and drive. Finance: Knowing how to price your services and run your finances is the basis of having a business. Even if you have a great accountant (and you need one), you need to understand what is going on in your business at a financial level. A formal finance course at a college or university is good for this, and you definitely want to be familiar with Robert Kiyosakiâs materials on the subject. What if Iâm not ready? Find someone who already runs their own business and see if you can join forces. Get a job for now, knowing itâs temporary, while you brush up your business skills. Or just go for it anyway. You might not be ready to work for yourself, but todayâs reality calls for it. How Hiring Decisions Are Made - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career
How Hiring Decisions Are Made - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Years ago, I had a large office in the Wall Street area with a personal secretary screening my phone calls, opening mail, taking dictation, and managing my calendar. Since then of course, the business world has changed. The next phase had executives sharing a pool of secretaries using floppy discs working on word processors. That was followed by an administrative assistant supporting at times an entire group. Whereas years ago the hiring process and the hiring decision were the exclusive domain of the executive, nowadaysâ"since so-called teamwork has become a major part of the work environmentâ"hiring decisions are often shared and thus made by several team members. That process supports the concept that a group decision is better than an individual decision. As a result, the process has become convoluted, protracted, and not necessarily betterâ"in my opinion. Todayâs job market is flooded with lots of very qualified candidates chasing very few openings. The way hiring happens has also changed. Technology has infiltrated the process, and todayâs submission of oneâs candidacy is purely mechanical. Nobody sees the candidateâs skills and qualifications unless the hiring managerâs keywords match those on the résumé, and only then is the original résumé reproduced for reading. Once that happens, several candidates get reviewed via a selection process. To save time and money, a phone interview, or screen, is the next hurdle candidates face. Itâs usually accomplished by someone junior in the human resources department who does not fully understand the hiring departmentâs particular needs. If an external recruiter is the intermediary between the candidate and the hiring company, then the recruiterâs financial motivation is playing a key role. Thatâs because recruiters work for the company paying their commissions. Decision Making Decision making is a complex process because several parties have a say and a stake in it. For example, sometimes the human resources department representativeâs opinion carries significant weight, and other times the rep is merely a paper trail processor. Sometimes a candidate is interviewed by several people in addition to the final decision maker. Those others, too, have a sayâ"because hiring managers want to show their support of their teams by demonstrating their collegialityâ"but to what extent those other opinions matter is probably variable. And what happens when a hiring manager favors a particular candidate but several others whoâd be future peers of the candidate show resistance? In addition, in most cases hiring managers know the thinking and mentality of the person they report into, so what happens if their own opinion is opposed regarding the type of person who should be hired? A recent large survey was conducted among human resources professionals and hiring managers. The survey clearly found that by far, the number one factor in the hiring decision is the fit factorâ"meaning, the determination about whether a candidate will fit into the culture of the company. Fully 100 percent of the respondents said so! But what is this culture thatâs referred to? Who defines it? Who interprets it? Some companies use exclusively behavior-based or situation-based interview questions. The tenet here is that past performance is a good indicator or predictor of similar such performance. I wonder if those companies can decisively demonstrate that by practicing this theory, they become able to hire and retain a higher-caliber labor force. Ultimately, of course, it is people who make the final decision about which candidate to offer the job to. The interview process is certainly not a science but an art. Can that art be learned in order to improve oneâs chances of being hired? Well, Iâm sure you know the answer to the old riddle that asks, Do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall?

A Marketers Guide to Audience Engagement
A Marketerâs Guide to Audience Engagement Effective content is crucial for audience engagement. Companies are increasing their content marketing efforts, according to Smart Insights, creating a more competitive environment for online marketers. More than 90 percent of companies are utilizing content marketing in 2017 75 percent of companies increased their content marketing budget in 2016 43 percent of companies increased staffing levels of their content marketing departments Despite these figures, Smart Insights reports that approximately half of all content marketing strategies are not integrated with the rest of the business strategy. Add in the potential of marketing being in the âage of content shockâ â" or how the exponential increase in content production could result in content consumption increasing slightly and then inevitably plateauing â" and itâs easy to see how the stakes have intensified for marketers. With the right audience engagement strategies and tools, marketers can create valuable content that overcomes âcontent shock.â But it isnt just a matter of quantity. The graphic below clearly shows that were already far past the point of just doing more. Effective audience engagement depends on a well-planned, well executed, and coherent approach that delivers the results you want. Heres how to achieve that. Audience Engagement Strategies Create High-Quality Content Quality is the most important aspect for content, whether itâs a blog post, infographic, video or podcast. Content should be unique, targeted and, according to Kissmetrics, âeasy.â Easy to Scan: Take layout into account for pages and articles. Readers tend to scan instead of reading pages, so use appealing typography and visual images to catch individualsâ eyes, which will cause them to read more. Content with relevant images receives 94 percent more views than content without relevant images. Easy to Interact With: Create interactive elements such as quizzes, polls and online chat. Easy to Load: A one-second load delay can drop conversions by 7 percent. Minimize bounce rates and maximize readersâ happiness by improving site speed. Minimizing image files and investing in a content delivery network can help. Easy to Share: âSocial sharing is, to a great extent, the highest level of engagement that there is,â Kissmetrics says. Try to integrate social media buttons to content pages to make this a simple step for visitors. Easy to Monetize: Advertisers are struggling to turn a profit due to problems like few solutions for making money from mobile users and interruptive ads that have led to the increased use of ad blockers. One effective way is to integrate contextual ads into content, which automatically provide relevant and engaging banner ads. Develop an Authentic Personality Create content that aligns with your brandâs personality. For some companies, this means a fun, quirky style, while for others it means a more direct, concise approach. The Content Marketing Institute offers 10 tips for adding more personality into content. Tell a good story to draw readers in, offering entertainment value while matching the purpose or mission of your content. Elicit an emotional response to appeal to readersâ emotions. Ask rhetorical questions to get readers thinking, instead of merely being fed information. Use formatting like good paragraph spacing, bold type, italicized fonts and lists to make content pleasing to the eye. Widen your vocabulary for more personality (but donât overdo it). Be interested in your topic, which allows your enthusiasm to be contagious to readers. Read entertainment content to become a better writer. Include fascinating facts to support why people read: to be entertained and to learn. Write like you talk to communicate clearly and avoid jargon. Build suspense to leave your reader hanging on your every word. Integrate a Timely Communication Strategy Produce content on a regular basis to keep your blog, social media accounts and other content marketing channels fresh. Give your audience a reason to come back with new content, and remember that it is important to be seen in your audiencesâ social media feeds and by search engines. Use Social Media Effectively Social media is a natural landing spot for your content. For each channel, you should ask some key questions that tell you the purpose of the channel, goals for your audience (do you want them to share, comment or register for something?), what type of content your audience wants, the right tone and how often you should post. The content you post, as well as your tone and frequency, will look different for LinkedIn and Twitter, for instance. Evaluate how youâll appeal to your specific audience on each channel and leverage the channelâs best practices. Focus on Targeted Outreach Find other places where you can place your content. From a guest post on Forbes to a sponsored infographic on a leading personal blog in your niche, there are opportunities outside of your channels that provide potential. Developing relationships with influencers in relevant topics can be a powerful strategy for getting your brand seen. Utilize User-Generated Content Ask for your customers and audience to participate in building content. You can run campaigns that call for pictures on social media, user-created videos that feature your brand and more. These types of opportunities can help motivate and engage your target audience better by getting them involved actively. Track Impact of Engagement Identify metrics on your website, social media accounts and more to gauge your effectiveness. Performance indicators not only inform what your return on investment is for your content marketing campaigns, but they help reveal ways you can improve. Track your success and test different things to capitalize on your ideas. Online Audience Engagement Tools Audience engagement tools offer an ideal way for marketers and small business owners to track engagement and/or communicate with customers. Here are some of the top audience engagement tools. HubSpot: This social media tool allows you to develop a content calendar, automate posts and see a wide variety of data for your accounts. Itâs one of the most popular tools of its kind for businesses of all sizes. Zendesk: Improve relationships with your customers through this could-based tool. This customer service software and support ticketing system lets you gather customer feedback and address questions and requests for help. It is fully scalable. Intercom: Intercom is an integrated customer messaging application that has live chat, customer engagement and customer support features. It integrates with several platforms and tools, thanks to its flexible APIs. MailChimp: Automate your email marketing campaigns for content efforts and more with MailChimp. You can schedule emails, use email templates, set up auto replies and track the effectiveness of your campaigns. Outbrain: Outbrain is an advertising platform that places your content on premium websites. It produces 200 billion recommendations for consumers each month. TweetDeck: This social media tool for Twitter lets you schedule tweets and track where your brand, industry or specific topics are mentioned. Importance of A Marketing Education Obviously, marketing is now more than ever an essential part of any business. There should be someone on board, or at least under contract, who not only knows business but has a good understanding of the nuances of marketing. But what if youre a small company that doesnt have that in your staff mix? One answer is to work towards an online bachelorâs degree in business administration that focuses on the marketing skills and tools graduates need to adapt and excel in the business world. While there are many options, one that is particularly interesting is from Grace College. Their GOAL (Grace Opportunities for Adult Learners) program is designed for students balancing personal commitments while pursuing an education. The fully online MBA provides students with a strong foundation in marketing, accounting, finance and human resources as well as coursework in entrepreneurship. These programs can help graduates gain the skills needed in todays marketing-intense world and pursue leadership opportunities in business. Audience Engagement = Skillful Marketing The cost of marketing takes an increasing bite out of the budgets of most businesses. So its more important than ever to get it right, the first time. Take the time to execute the elements of effective marketing weve pointed out, and your bottom line will thank you.
